May 6 question – Do you have any rituals that you use when you need help getting into the ZONE? Care to share?

Do I ?

My ritual vase is full to the brim.

Stretching before I set a foot on the floor and my early morning writing before breakfast with a steaming mug of tea are both a must. 

If someone or something takes that away, I carry an uneasiness which can border on stress and depression all day.

Definitely hung up on my rituals.

The chores come next, which I could do without but which somehow enable me to free my mind of any material concerns, responsibilities or worry.

Do-In Yoga and getting dressed polish my body and self-esteem.

Only then can I take on the day: work, activities (physical or intellectual) or serious creative writing.

The latter being performed at my desk, overlooking the garden and sky, listening to my favourite music. If Ideas come unawares outside of home, I carry a notebook constantly in my bag.

Mornings are definitely the most active part of my day … but morning only ends when I have a snack for lunch, anything needing full concentration has to be finished before. So the said snack, yoghurt and fruit , can sometimes only take place at 2 or 3 pm.

The remainder of the day is rest and play: a nap to recharge, reading, watching films, social activities … and a few chores at the end of the day (dinner if family are at home; cleaning up).

However I try to maintain a balanced lifestyle throughout Day or Night, forever in the Zone, thinking and writing in my head when I watch movies or read books or go to the theatre, or interacting socially; even in my dreams where characters and settings come alive and combine to create a film before my eyes.
